Brothers & sisters, almost every Javanese knows Pandawa or in Javanese “Pendowo”, but for people living in Jakarta & the surounding cities, especially for the young teenagers, Pandawa may be something strange and rarely heard by them.
I was kind of surprised when my daughter invited me to watch the Pandawa story to be performed by students of Binus International School Serpong. To me this is very interesting. If this were performed by a school in East Java or Central Java, I wouldn’t be surprised. Because it is very common out there. But here, in Serpong… well, I was very keen to watch the show.
The show was held on Nov. 4, 2011 evening. When we got to Binus International School that evening, people were already queing in the long lines… Wow, I didn’t expect there would be so many people comming, but I was totally wrong. Students and their parents were very anthusiastic to watch the show. When we got inside the hall, it was alredy filled up with people, so we got to sit a bit far from the stage.
At first I had no idea which part of Pandawa stories would be performed. Being born and spent my childhood in East Java I am very familiar with wayang show. When the show began then I knew what the story would be. Unlike the traditional wayang show, this show was a bit different. It was a very nice and well prepared combination of traditional & modern performance. The dialog was in English and Indonesian, but English was mostly used. I personally enjoyed the show and highly appreciated the idea of this show. Very-very interesting.
Well done guys..bravo Binus International School Serpong.
