Do you know how many Big Ben are there in the world? I have visited only two, one is in London, England I visited many years ago, the other one is in Bukit Tinggi Indonesia, I visited just recently. The one in Bukit Tinggi was built by the Dutch government almost 100 years ago. As far as I know, there are only two of this kind in the world, one in London and one in Bukit Tinggi. Both Big Ben in London and jam Gadang in Bukit Tinggi are still functioning well despite of their very old age.

Every tourist, domestic or foreign when they come to Bukit Tinggi, Jam Gadang is the one they most visit. It is the icon of the city and one that Indonesia is very proud of.

One unique thing about this Jam Gadang is the numbers in the watch, they  are written in Roman numerals, yet the number 4, it is not written IV but IIII. It is unusual but it is unique.
