Brothers & sisters…., when you are traveling to Lombok island Gili Trawangan should be the first visit place on your list, don’t ever miss it. This is my first visit to this small island (gili in local language) but I truly love it.

Gili Trawangan is one of the three small islands located north west of Lombok island. It is now the most visited island among the three gilis. Gili Trawangan has beautiful beaches with powdery white sand and clear blue water. You can go into the water and watch many kind of beautiful fish and coral reefs. If you are lucky you will see turtles swimming around. You also may go farther by boat for diving and enjoy the beauty of living creatures down below.

When the sky is clear you can see in the far distance the majestic mount Agung in Bali on the west side and the beautiful mount Rinjani on the other side. For you who would like to tan your skin you can lay down on the sand freely, enjoy scenery, the ray of the sunshine and the breeze. Not for me though, I have dark skin already, hot sun shine is the last thing I want to have, even avoid it if possible.

There are many hotels, villas, cottages to stay so don’t worry for those who want to stay overnight. Better to book prior to your arrival though just to secure yourself from not having a place to stay. Restaurants, there are many of them with all kind of foods & cooking. You will not starve as long as you have the money ready. The price of foods & drinks I think is reasonable, not cheap but also not too expensive.

The unique thing about this Gili Trawangan is there is no motor vehicle, no car, no motorcycle. But there is a local transport called Cidomo (horse cart), I found the fee is a bit expensive though. There are bicycles available for you to rent if you want to travel around the island. You also can just walk, I see many visitors do this. My wife and I rent bicycles to ride for short distance, but when we want to go farther around the island, we rent a Cidomo.

How to get there? Obviously you have to rent a boat, Gili Tranwangan can be reached from Lombok or from Bali. There are many tourists come directly from Bali. As for us, we have arranged our travel using local travel agent (Lombok Tour Plus) so everything is already been taken care.
